| Having recently celibrated its own Centenary, Woking Choral Society has another landmark ahead of it. It will be joining with other choirs, three international soloists and the London Philharmonic Orchestra for a special Centenary Performance of Elgar's oratorio The Dream of Gerontius, which will take place on Sunday, 1st October 2000 in the Royal Albert Hall, London. This choral masterpiece was first heard on 3rd October1900 in Birmingham. The Centenary Performance will be conducted by John Cotterill, for which he is bringing together, under the title "New Century Chorus", choirs with which he has been associated, including, in addition to Woking Choral Society, Great Missenden Choral Society, The Waverley Singers and Maidenhead Chamber Choir plus the Oxford Pro Musica Singers. The event will be in aid of the charity Help the Aged and the family of Sir Edward Elgar have commended it to all lovers of his music and to all who might wish to give to this charity; they have strongly endorsed it as the Centenary Performance. |
